Year Three Technology challenge

While the Year 4 children were doing PATs the Year 3 Children had a Technology challenge.  The first day they had to make a chair to support a Harold giraffe toy.  The second session they had to make a tunnel which a marble would roll down.  They had a list of materials they could use (and no more or other material could be used).  They needed to work as a team; demonstrating the skills of co-operation and collaboration.   They certainly learnt LOTS and were much better on the second day - having discovered for themselves the benefits of working in a collaborative way.  Here are some photos.....

Hot day

We have had some super hot days prompting some great stories.  These stories sizzle!

 Hot Day Stories

Pooooof it was a blazing hot day. There were giant fires. My grandparents were stuck in Waimarama and could not do anything so we had to go and feed the dogs. The cat had not been eating we thought he might be dying. We could not find him so he might be dead already. It was a bad day.

On a steaming blazing hot day all the leaves fell of the tree and the flower died. I came to school everyone forgot to shut the door the air conditioning was on. The sun was shining in my eyes. I was cooking all over my body. At play time I was dying lava hot and after school I went to gym at four o’clock and it ends at 7 o’clock. We run for 3 metres it was tiring breezing hot then exercise 1 minute then we finish gym and we came home. I had a play at home then I went to Erika’s house for a swim.

Yesterday I woke up it was so hot that I was burning like a frying pan. Then I set off to have a cold breakfast and some cold water. When I got to school I couldn’t wait to get to the cold classroom. When I go outside again I started melting like chocolate. I drank more yesterday. It was really good to go in the pool. After school I had a smoothie and an ice block. It was annoying later because I had to go to Jui Jitsu.

The day it was blazing hot.

Yesterday it was blazing, frying hot. It felt like there was lasers’ hitting you.  It was so so so so so so so so so so hot like fire and there was a fire yesterday. It was so so so so so hot that I felt like I was going to melt. All of the flowers and trees were dying into ash. Everything was so hot that it burnt my hands off. I couldn’t stop drinking water with lots and lots of ice and I had 3 bowls of ice cream.

On a steaming hot day it was so hot that all of the flowers died. Every time I opened the door I felt a gush of glazing hot air come on to me and our teacher Ms Petherick keep saying shut the doors because she was hot too. I felt like I was slowly burning. I felt uncomfortable because I was so hot. At playtime since I was running around I was cooking.

Yesterday it was avalanche hot hotness day. I was outside playing with my nice and caring friends. I was on the concrete and my feet were burning hot sausages. I was burning lava because everyone else is buring hot too. I was blasting lava hot outside. I wish it wasn’t very lava hot day. Today isn’t that hot if it was I would blow up.

Yesterday it was a steaming hot day because god forgot to turn down the sun. It was so hot we cooled down in the pool and when we got out we were much cooler but when we played again I began to sweat.

The day god forgot to tune off the sun it was like having one thousand woolly blankets. In the boiling hot morning I walked to school it got hotter and hotter. Some things were so hot and blazing that it got smelted of the sun! When I got to school I went so warm I jumped to the forgotten god and told him off. I felt like I was going to steam and burn to death but I did not. My teacher always said “shut the door!” When the hot air went in it was all over my steamed body. I could not live with all this lava hotness! Soon the heat was taking over the planet then everything was gone.

On a blazing hot day at school. We keep the conditioning on. We shut the door but it was still hot at morning tea. We had nothing to do it was too hot. At night it was hot too.

Yesterday was fire blaze because we go swimming after morning tea. The teacher taught us on a hot sausage day from yesterday. At lunch it is windy and hot . The milk was warm milk Ms Petherick put the milk in her office then she put it in her cool office. I like doing stories with everyone and sonny and Mrs Looij and Ms Petherick. I like going to school!!!

Yesterday was a burning hot day because when I stood on the concrete my feet would start to bubble so if I wanted to see something from on the concrete I would have to run on the spot. It was so hot it even started 7 fires that burnt 2 houses down. When I was playing ball tag with Adam, Blake, Beau and Patrick I was in and the ball was burning my hands it was so hot. When I was hanging on the bars I got a huge blister and it was so big that it was bigger than my finger tip.

Yesterday was a hot, boiling and fire blazing day. It was hot because… there was a big huge scrub fire in Hawkes Bay. It was so hot I had to go to the beach. As straight as we got the beach I rushed to the ocean. I had 2 ice creams and 1 ice block. It was so hot I felt like I was melting to death.

Yesterday it was boiling hot. There were lots of fires. I was trying to find lots of shade. It was even hotter because we were running around. I was sweating hot. When we got to the class Ms Petherick said shut the door then we went swimming the water cooled me down. The water was nice swimming then when we got back to class, the class was hot then we went to have lunch I got so hot then we got sweaty it was hard to walk on the concrete we ran into the shade. It was hot in the shade, it was hot on the stones then we had milk. The milk was hot.

It was a blazing hot day. Yesterday Room 4 was boiling. So we went to the pool and it cooled us down. After that, I got hot again. After I went home from school we were jumping into our paddling pool but I wanted to put ice cubes in it. The sun was dazzling among us. I wanted to stay in the shade all day. We had the heat pump on. It cooled the class down!!

It was a super-hot day. When suddenly we got a big shock. We had to go to the pool super, super fast. We had our togs on already, so we could jump in but when we t got in, it was freezing.  We then hopped out. We were shivering like cool, cool little birds.
